We are: 9 weeks and 2 days!!
We had our 2 month check up and Riley is scarred for life! She got 4 shots (Polio, DTaP, Hib, and Prevnar) along with an oral vaccine for the Rotavirus. She swallowed the oral one with delight, but she has not stopped crying from the 4 shots....she got them at 2 and it is not 8:30 at night!! She has had Tylenol, but that only works for a bit, then she starts to fussy again. I had her in the Baby Bjorn for 2 hours, but she would not let me sit down!! So my legs and back hurt now. ...but it is a small price to pay for her health. I guess this is why her nickname is Fussy Face!!
She now weighs 11 pounds and 8 ounces (69%) 24 inches long (96%)!! I think she gets her height from my Pappy....he was a professional basketball player!! Hopefully she will get his basketball skills too!!
I have just given her a bath, read to her, and put her to bed. I think that swaddling her is just what she wanted, she is now sound asleep....lets hope for a peaceful evening!

Long Weekend
We are: 8 weeks and 6 days!!
What a great LONG weekend it was for us, filled with BBQ's and relaxation!! On Saturday we headed over to the annual Memorial Day Pool Party at the Hydocks. Riley was soo excited to get to spend more time with Madeline. Although the weather was gorgeous, it was still a bit too cold for the pool, so Riley will debut her bikini another day. We had to leave there a bit early though so that we could try to keep with our bed time routine that she is getting used to (bath, lotion, pj's, bottle, swaddle, bed) It seems to really work, I think she understands that when it is bath time it means we are settling down for the night. We try to get her into bed between 7:30-8:00.
Anyways, we had a great time at the Hydocks (Thank you very much!!) and there was great food!! Then on Sunday (daddy's only day off!) we did some running around, more BBQing and then we all took a family nap!!
Monday brought more of the same!! Daddy had to work, so when he got off we were going to go look for deck furniture, however we went to a friends for a BBQ again!! I am BBQed out!
Riley has been doing a wonderful job a night with the sleeping. We usually put her down around 7:30-8ish, then right before I go to bed (10:30-11) I pop a bottle in her mouth for a little topping-off (about an ounce) then she doesn't get up until around 4ish. Last night Joe and I retired to bed early, so I topped her off at 9:45 and she slept til 3! It was great to get 5 hours in a row!! I am hoping that soon we will be going until 6, than 7!!! Wouldn't that be wishful thinking!!
Anyways, we are very busy this week too, today when she gets up from her nap we are heading out to run some errands, tomorrow we are meeting Grandma O for lunch, Thursday we are having a play date with Hayan and her daughter and Lee Ann and her 2 daughters and her son. Then on Friday we have our 2 month check up!!
I think I need a nap now too!!

Holy COW!!
We are: 6 weeks and 6 days!
Well, today Riley has wanted to eat every 1-2 hours!! I can't keep up with her. I have had to dip into my reserves int he freezer!! If this keeps up we will be switching to formula VERY soon!! She would eat, then fall asleep for 30-40 minutes, then wake up screaming. At first I thought she just had gas.....but when that wasn't it, I would try to give her an ounce of milk, she would chug it down!! So I would have to heat up more. The only time she went longer was when we were out running errands. The car made her sleep. But, that was only for 2 hours, and we had to cut our Giant trip a bit short. I am hoping it is only during the day and not at night! Otherwise I will be sleeping on the recliner in her room!!
Needless to say, we didn't get too many smiles today from her. She was a bit of a cranky pants!! But we are all entitled to a day here and there to be cranky!!

My first Mother's Day!!
We are: 6 weeks and 4 days!!
Today we celebrated my first Mother's Day!! Riley (and Joe and Buster) got me a really sweet card and a beautiful hydrangea plant. I got to sleep in a bit this morning while Joe took Riley down to eat, my parents and brother came over for a wonderful lunch. We all just hung out and relaxed. Then Joe, Riley and I took a 2+ hour nap!! It was heaven!! Here are a few photo's from the day. Not only was the day relaxing....but history was made......my brother held Riley! He is not a big fan of holding babies. So I was really happy that he did. (Thanks Todd!!)

First day of school
We are: 6 weeks and 2 days!
Riley and I went to visit my students at school today. We stopped by to eat lunch with two other teachers, then when the kids came inside for recess (since it was raining out) we visited with the kids for a while then heading into the rest of the school to meet others. Riley was GREAT! While the kids were all around her and loud, she slept through the whole thing!! Then we were in talking to the assistant Principal and she woke up....ready to eat. We sat and talked with Brian while I fed her a bottle. Then, as only Riley could do best, she had an attack of gas!! It was not the silent but deadly kind....rather the loud and smelly kind. I could tell that it was coming and I just hoped that it would only be gas and not a dirty diaper.
We then visited with a friend of mine, Stacey. She is due in September and had LOTS of questions. I tried to help her out about the equipment needed, the supplies, what to expect with a c-section (if she were to have one) and anything else I could think of. She is looking great and so excited to meet her little girl, Catie.
Joe, Riley and I headed out to dinner this evening. We went to Olive Garden....you gotta love their bread sticks and salad!! We had our first moment of Riley crying in public. Usually she will just fall asleep in the car on the way somewhere and then sleep for 3 hours. But since she is going through a bit of a growth spurt, she does not like to sleep unless it is night time. So, she was not too excited to be in her car seat and not moving somewhere. So, after eating half my spaghetti I had to stop and get her out of the car seat and give her some love. But it was fine, she just wanted to look around.
I sure am hoping to have another good night of sleep. She slept from 11-5:30 last night!! I know I should feel rested the next day, but I was so tired today!! When we got home from dinner I went upstairs to put on sweats and decided to just "rest" on the bed for "only 10 minutes"...but an hour later I woke up.....feeling much better.
Anyways, hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Ultrasounds, sleeping, smiling, and puke....
We are: 6 weeks and 1 days!
Well.....it has been a crazy week. After Riley's big puke on Monday, she was fine that night. Then Tuesday was a "normal" day. Yesterday however was not "normal". Riley only slept for 10-20 minutes at a time. She was awake the rest of the time, either swinging, playing on her mat, or crying for attention. I was a bit tired by the end of the day.....so, at 11pm I FINALLY got her to sleep and to my joy she did not wake up until 5am!! I got 6 hours of sleep!! What heaven!!
Riley is still spitting up with ever feeding, however it is nothing like Mondays projectile vomiting. So i am fine with that. We started her on a vitamin that the pediatrician recommended. I just put it in one of her bottles during the day....but man it stinks! The smell is so bad!! Jackie had warned me, but I was not prepared at all!!
Today we headed off to the hospital to have an ultrasound done on her hips. Since she was born breach it was standard procedure to have it done when they are 6 weeks old. The radiologist said that everything looked good on her right hip. Her left hip needs to be watched for a little tension. But she said that we will have to follow up in a bit, nothing to worry about.
Finally...on a bright side, Riley had her first real smile today that we could document!! I still need to download the photos that I tried to take. Of course the camera was too slow to get the full photo, but I got half smiles anyways.
Here is to hoping that she sleeps another 6 hours tonight!! I would love to be spoiled again.

A scary day...
We are: 5 weeks and 5 days!
Well, I had my first scary moment with Riley today. After her 4:30 feeding she and I were sitting on the couch just hanging out together. I had my legs propped up and she was facing me. She got an odd look on her face and then next think I know I had vomit on my face, all over me, all over the couch, all over her, just everywhere!! Riley had projectile vomit! It kept coming out and she was choking a bit too. I immediately called the doctors. They had me take her temperature, which she didn't have one, and to watch her for a few minutes. They asked if she was acting "normal", which I guess for a 5 week she was. She didn't seem sick, minus the fact that we were both covered in puke!
They said that she most likely had an air bubble in her stomach from a few feedings ago and so all the milk that had entered her belly after that had to come up some how. So, I have to watch her for the next few hours, if it happens again or if she gets a fever than we need to head to the ER tonight. So far so good though. I have fed her again and she was ok. So I am hoping that it was just an air bubble......but man that was scary!!
When it happened Joe was working, so I immediately called him, on the verge of tears. I was just standing in the middle of our living room, the two of us covered in vomit and Buster just standing next to me. What a sight!!

The Baby Whisperer
We are: 5 weeks and 2 days!
My friend, Erin (yeah, it was confusing growing up with another Erin!!), mentioned to me about a book called the Baby Whisperer. This lady was on Oprah and can help you to get your baby to sleep through the night. So Erin explain the feeding schedule to me, then gave me the book to look through. I tried the feeding schedule, but after two days it was not working and I was getting frustrated, so I stopped. It had to do with "cluster feeds" and "dream feeds". Well it was throwing Riley off and one night she was even awake from 8pm-8am!! I was not happy at all!! But, the book as really helped me understand the importance of routines. It gave me a GREAT nap/bedtime routine to follow to help get her to fall asleep faster and to STAY asleep for longer. It is called the 4 S's (Setting the Stage, Swaddle, Sit, and Shush/Pat) . This routine has taken us from 30-40 minutes of trying to get her to fall asleep to 10-15 minutes. It has also helped her learn to put her self to sleep!! So.....I totally recommend it!! She now sleeps 3-4 hours at a time instead of 2-3.....it is GREAT!! I think I will start trying the feeding routine again next week!! One thing at a time!
