Too Much Fun

Well, after a sleepless night, Riley and I headed off to the doctors this morning to figure out what was bothering her. My money was on her ears. Well, good thing I am not a betting woman, her ears are totally fine. So, after the doctor looked her over she informed me that she is totally fine. She is eating great and gaining weight (now 13.3!! A month ago she was 11.8!!) She asked me what a typical afternoon entailed for Ri Bear. So I informed her that she loves to play and that she is now playing on her play mat, exo-saucer, sitting in her Bumbo chair, and also watching her new Baby Einstein DVD's. The doctor told me that that was her problem.....she is having too much fun at one time!! That I should have her play in one toy, then relax (sit quietly with me or take a nap). Then after she has relaxed, she can play with a different toy. She has become over-stimulated.

So, today was a quiet and low key day. I headed off to the pool with my friend Erin and Riley stayed home with her Grandma Bouch. They just hung out together and relaxed. So come 7pm tonight, she was totally ready for her three B's: bottle, bath and bed. She is out like a light now!!

Here is to hoping for a "normal" night again!!

Forget just a thumb....

Yeah, Riley is not interested in her thumb, instead she would rather her whole fist!! We could be sitting in the other room and you will just hear a sucking noise. Upon closer observation we have realized that she will spit out her paci and replace it with her fist!! It is really cute to see her going to town on her hand, but in the process of sucking away, she drools all over her clothes. But I guess it is keeping her happy, so I can't complain.

Things got worse today. She cried all afternoon while holding her ears. Anyone who has spent time around her lately knows that she loves to hold her ears when she is falling asleep. But it was almost as if they where hurting her. I am going to keep an eye on her tomorrow and if need be I will take her to them looked at on Friday. The only thing to keep her happy was to be held, which is TOTALLY not normal for her. Normally she likes to play and smiles a lot and love to be held when she is tired. So, my arms are tired tonight from holding her all day. Our day consisted of a feeding, playing for 5 minutes, crying, falling asleep in my arms for 30 minutes, playing for 10 minutes, crying, sleeping, eating, repeat!! I am very tired, but would not trade this job for anything in the world.....so I am off to numb the pain with a cold beer!!

Going backwards!!

We are: 13 weeks!!

Well, things are not going well these days. I say that with the understanding that they are not going well for US, many other families have it MUCH worst than Joe and I and they babies are not as happy as Riley. So I do understand that we are a luck couple. However, I am sure we will have a horrible baby next time, just because we are so blessed this time.

So....what is going on? Well, I have stopped pumping milk (BTW, it KILLS to stop!) and so Riley is on formula full time, plus she just went through a growth-spurt so now each feeding went from 3 ounces to 4 ounces! This has caused many issues with Riley.

1. She is pooping 3-4 times a day, which is about 2-3 times more than before!!
2. She is tired all the time. So play time is now only15 minutes, then she wants to sleep.
3. She is fussy more, because she is tired more!!

However, today seems to be better than the last few days, I think she is getting used to the formula full time.

She is doing a few other new things:

1. She is about to roll over. She gets over to her side, then realizes "Wait, I hate to be on my belly, so I better not do this!" and goes back to her back.
2. Wants to play on her play mat for hours. Although I do not allow this, in fear that she will get a flat head!!

3. A good friend of mine, Amy, dropped of some Baby Einstein DVD's the other day and I popped one in yesterday (Baby Beethoven) and Riley LOVES it! And to does Buster (there is a part where a dog barks and he comes running in to look at the TV) I am attaching a picture or her watching it....do not be alarmed, she does not normally sit that close to the tv, I had to move her closer to get her in the picture!!
4. At night Riley has a new game. At 2am so wakes up and cries. I go in her room and she is smiling at me!!! So I put her paci in her mouth, tell her to night-night and go back to bed. She does this silly little "game" again at 3 and then at 4!! Finally at 4:30 she is actually hungry so I feed her. It was really cute the first night, but we are now going on 4 nights in a row!! I have no idea how to stop it. If I don't go in her room, she goes into a full all-out cry!! However, once I feed her at 4:30, she will sleep until 10am!! So that is really nice!!
5. She likes to have conversations all day with me (when she is awake!!). We just sit there and she will babble and I will say, "Oh really? tell me more!" and she will continue on. It is really cute. But then after a few minutes, if I don't understand her she will stop talking and gives me the silent treatment. The girl has quite a personality!!
6. She is playing in her exo-saucer, but gets frustrated becasue her feet don't touch yet....it's really cute though!

I am attaching a bunch of pictures. Riley on her play mat, Riley watching her DVD, one of Riley and I, and one of Riley in the tub. Enjoy!!

I should've knocked on wood!!

We are: 12 weeks!!

Well, after having two GREAT nights with Riley sleeping through the night, we are having a bit of a rough patch now. For the last three nights now she has been crying so hard at night. Before she LOVED bath time, now she is crying from the time we head upstairs, through her bath, during the lotion and pj's and through er bottle. Before we could swaddle and paci and she would put herself to sleep, now she is crying for about 30-40 minutes while in the crib. I tend to just stand outside her door during this time to continually do paci duty. I don't want to take her out of her crib to console her during this time, so I just keep popping the paci back in and walking away, eventually she gets so tired that she just falls asleep.

Another new thing is that throughout to night she is still getting her hands out of the swaddle, no matter how tight it is. I think we just need to get new ones, these are stretched out and the velcro doesn't work very well. So.....I just got downstairs after a 30 minute battle with the paci and her tears. But.....she was really trying to get out of the swaddle, so....I took her out and put her in a sleep sack thing, where her arms are free but her legs are in a sleeping-bag like thing. I put her in it and have not hear from her since (knock on wood!!!) She enjoys sleeping with her hands by her ears and covering her eyes. So, perhaps this will be a new thing. Hey, if it works I will do it!! I am also thinking she is going through a little growth spurt too. She is always hungry!!!

We have her follow up hip ultrasound tomorrow. This is just to double check that her hip (left one) has tightened up a bit. On her last one it showed that it was a bit loose in the socket, so they said that over time they tighten up, so we are hoping that 2 months was enough time. I will update later as to how it goes.

Well, I need to get a few things done before heading to bed. I have had to do night time baby duty and go to work for the last few days, so I am really tired. I am now on "summer break" so I hope that I will catch back up on some sleep tonight.

A Wonderful Weekend!!

We are: 11 weeks and 5 days!!

We had a great weekend, lots of Family time, and lots of "Joe and I" time. We were lucky enough to have a night out on Friday night. We headed up to Kilroys for Tommys "gig". Joe got to sing a bunch too....although not for money, just for fun. Then on Saturday we headed to Troy's house where he and Carey had a pool party and Riley got to go in the water for the first time!! She loved it. Saturday night was also another HUGE event....Riely slept through the night!! She slept from 8:30-6:30...woke up to eat, then went right back o sleep until 9:30....it was wonderful!! Well, I can't write much tonight, but here are a few photos for you to feast your eyes on:

Solid Routine

We are: 9 weeks and 5 days!!

We are finally in a solid routine. It feels really good, to know what to expect each day. I know when I can do things, when to make appointments, when not to do things, when Riley needs to be in bed, etc. Our biggest thing was to get into a bedtime routine. That has made the biggest difference. Riley knows that it is bedtime and time to settle down. We start at 7:30...bath, lotion massage, pj's, bottle, swaddle, rock for 5 minutes, bed. By 8pm Joe and I are on the couch catching up on our reality tv!! Our biggest mistake for the first month was to not have a bedtime routine, so we would be going up and down the stairs all evening long. I would totally recommend this to anyone and everyone!! If you think about it, we all have our own bedtime routines (brush teeth, take out contacts, wash face, etc.) So why shouldn't our little ones! Anyways, off to begin my own bedtime routines!! Here is Joe getting Riley ready for bath time......look at that cute little tush!!
