Got Stairs?!?!

This morning we added a new trick to our long list!! We can now climb stairs!! It was a battle at first, but she is totally getting the hang of it. I guess we need to get MORE baby gates! We also dance when we hear music, we are eating almost all table food now, and we shake our head no. Standing up and "walking" along on things is becoming easier and easier every day.

We went to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch yesterday and they were playing music loud enough that she could hear it and the WHOLE time we were there she was "dancing" to it. Riley will dance even if she hears music on a commercial.....the girl has rhythm!!

We are still fighting off a cough. Joe and I have begun using the nebulizer on her again, but I am thinking that we may make a visit to the doctors soon if it doesn't go anywhere. Riley is just breaking another tooth through....it is making us a little fussy, but nothing a paci or Cheerios can't fix!!

Riley went to GiGi's today or a few hours. GiGi asked me the other day to drop her off so she could make Joe a birthday card for him. So when we picked her up this afternoon she had a card for him....with her little footprints in it. Really cute!!

Taking the stairs.....it is like 2 minutes long, so you can just watch the first few steps and see her moving!!

9 months and Santa Came!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!

We are: 9 months today!!

Santa came yesterday and he was very good to Riley!! We have had a very very very busy few days. On Tuesday night Joe and I enjoyed an evening out while Riley spent the night at the Bouch Grandparents house. Grandma gave her a bath again and she loved spending time with them.
Tub time with Grandpa Bouch.

On Wednesday we headed down to my parents house for Christmas Eve and day. We relaxed and enjoyed some good dinner. However, our night was very restless!! Riley was getting a bad cough again and was not happy. We got her down at 8 as usual, but just about ever 30 minutes she was waking up coughing and crying. So finally at 11 I got into our bed for the night and brought her in with me. She still was waking up every 30 minutes coughing and crying, but I was there to sooth her and she would fall back to sleep. She and I was VERY tired on Christmas day!!
Her Christmas outfit.

On Christmas morning we opened presents at my parents then hit the road again to head to the Bouchs for Christmas again. We got there and had dinner then presents. It was a VERY long day and we were all really tired. Riley got lots of great gifts: LOTS of books, clothes, a ball popper (actually 2 of them!!), shoes, wooden shield with her birth info on it, some Mickey Mouse Clubhouse toys, socks, sleepwear, her first Cabbage Patch doll, and many other things!! Our townhouse is way too small for all these goodies!! Buster also made out with a really nice new dogie bed!!
Playing with the Ball Popper from Aunt Kerry and Uncle Brian. (Uncle Tommy and Aunt Tara got her one too!!)
Very tired and Grandpa was comforting her.

We decided that today we were not going to take her anywhere and we were going to let her do anything she wanted.....she really just wanted to sleep and play!! She took 2 3-hour naps!! I guess she was making up for Christmas Eve!! She is now eating table food and wants very little to do with actual baby food. She LOVES the Whole Grain Cheerios, Mac n Cheese, pasta with a little seasoning, rice, and chicken. We are slowly introducing things, but she will have very little to do with baby food now. I think she just really likes to feed herself. I guess we will have to really start cooking dinner now!! I guess I will be able to do that now since I am off until the 5th!! Eating Mac n Cheese and Cheerios!!

Overall we had a great Christmas and we are loving every minute with Riley!! She truly is the happiest baby I have ever met!!

Our Little Fish

This morning Joe and I got up and decided to take Riley to the pool. We figured that since she loves her nightly bath time she would love the pool....and she did!! She loved splashing, dipping her head back, and kicking. We had a great time, although it takes a lot of work to get ready, go, swim, and then all 3 of us change. Luckily the rec center has a Family Changing Room, so we could all get ready together. It made it a lot easier to have a second pair of hands helping out. When we got home Riley went down for a 3 hour nap, I took an hour nap, and Joe relaxed watching football.....we were all exhausted!! Here are a few videos from our days adventures:

A Mover and A Shaker

Riley is defiantly an active baby. If she is awake, she is moving. She does not want to sit and hang out anymore, she would rather be on the floor crawling or standing at the coffee table. She is ALWAYS smiling or laughing and loves to clap now. When she is tired she now likes to be held while you stand, no more sitting to comfort her. She likes to be held upright with her head on your shoulder and rub her back.....although, she LOVES to sleep!! She will take 2 naps a day (Usually the morning one at GiGi's is 2-3 hours!) then another afternoon one (1/5 hours), and then she will sleep from 7:30-9ish!! We are really blessed that we have a baby that "sleeps in"!! But many evenings I spend about 15 minutes (6:30-6:45) pacing with her, just to make her happy when she is getting tired.

Last weekend we went to Aunt Kerry's work to see Santa again. We loved him, although Riley was in need of a nap and so we did not get a smile out of her, but she did get her hand stuck in his fake beard and almost pulled it off!! We went to Aunt Nicole and Uncle Mike's house on Friday for dinner. Riley enjoyed playing with her cousin Gavin and visiting with her new cousin Jack. It was fun to just hang out and chat. Then today Riley and I went to visit her "Aunt" Hollie and LOVED seeing her again. Hollie took a lot of pictures and I can wait to see them. Riley was telling me on the way home that she really wishes I was better at getting together with Hollie, so I assured Riley that it will be one of my many New Years Resolution!!

We are looking forward to my 10 day break from work. I can not wait to spend every day with her. On Tuesday night we are planning to go to Grandma and Grandpa Bouchs house, Joe and I are heading out for a much needed evening out together, while Grandma and Grandpa take over. We will all sleep there, so that Joe and I can enjoy our night out and so we don't have to wake her up when we get home. Riley is really looking forward to spending some much needed time with them and to having a sleep over with them!!

Then on Wednesday we will head down to my parents house for Christmas Eve. We will sleep there and then do Christmas morning/afternoon with them. We will then head back to the Bouchs for the evening of dinner and presents. It will be a BUSY three days.....but we will have the whole next week to relax and rest!! We are all looking forward to spending time with both of our families. Most likely this will be the last Christmas that we travel, starting next year we are hoping to begin our own family traditions at home.

Riley enjoys standing up in her crib and throwing all her paci's over. She then will talk until someone comes in the room. And when you go in you are meet by her just smiling at you!! It is a beautiful sight!!!

Here are a few photos and a video.
Before bed one night she was crawling around while we were getting her pj's and bottle ready, and she stood at the humidifier and peed!! It was pretty funny and look how proud she was!!

Visiting Santa at Aunt Kerry's work....we were in desperate need of a nap. But she still liked him.
Until her hand got stuck in his fake beard.....she almost ruined Christmas for all the other kids in line!!

Eating more

This evening I was feeding Riley as I was eating soup. She was eyeing it and trying to get some.....so I decided to give her a little. I took out a piece of chicken and a noodle. I let them cook off and broke them into little pieces. When they had cooled down enough I placed the little pieces on her tray and she LOVED them!! So....she is now eating chicken and noodles!! YUMMY!!

A tooth?!?!

Could it be true? We are thinking Riley has her first tooth!! We would have no idea if I had not stuck my finger in to check the "progress". She has not been cranky and has given us no signal that something was growing. Maybe that is because she is too busy moving EVERYWHERE!! If Riley is not crawling somewhere, she is pulling herself up on something, or following Buster around. Her new favorite pass time is to crawl after him.....everywhere he goes. He is such a good puppy that he just lets her and doesn't care. She will crawl over him, on him, pull on his legs, use his legs to try to stand. He is very good and just loves her to bits. I have a video of Riley standing up in her crib that I will post later. We are having trouble getting her to sleep for naps and bed now because she just wants to stand and play. But once she stands she can't sit back down without falling back down on the mattress and that scares her. We also just went a bought a HUGE baby gate that can actually be made into a play pen too. But we currently have it around the TV and TV stand, and the Christmas tree. She LOVES going to the TV stand and trying to stand up or push buttons. Hopefully it helps!! Pictures and videos to come later!

A Great Long Weekend

We are: 8 months!!

We are doing MUCH better. We are finishing up the antibiotics and the neb treatments and Riley has made a wonderful recovery. Thanks for all the love!! We had a wonderful LONG weekend together and we spent some great time perfecting our crawling and standing. I picked her up early on Wednesday and we cam home to enjoy a nap together. Then Thursday we headed over to Joe's parents house for Thanksgiving. We had a great time and everyone loved on Riley all day long.

On Friday we headed out for a little Black Friday shopping. It was actually not as bad as we thought it would be and we got a lot done. We are almost done with all the shopping for the holidays!!

Saturday was spent by running more errands and then on Saturday night Joe and I went out for Matt's surprise birthday dinner. Aunt Kerry and Uncle Brian were in charge and Riley learned to pull herself to the standing position on their clock!! She spent all day today practicing that and her crawling. Joe and I will never relax again!!

We made a little play pen out of tables, bins and car-seats and she enjoyed herself with all her toys while we enjoyed watching her. We also had another big outing....to see SANTA!! Riley loved him!! She sat on his lap and just stared at him....then broke out into her usual huge smile!! She kept looking at Joe and I to smile at us, then would look right back at him. It was really cute!!

A few of her new tricks are:

* Crawling....EVERYWHERE!!
* Pulling herself from laying down the sitting
* Pulling herself up to a standing position
* Saying RaRaRaRa, GaGaGa, DDDDDD (not dada, just the D)
* Making a blow fish face. She blows her cheeks out, curls her bottom lip down and sticks her tongue out.....so stinkin' cute!!
* Feeds herself. Riley loves to eat her Gerber finger foods, but she also enjoys using a spoon to "feed herself". Although we are smart enough to not put food on the spoon. While feeding her, Riley enjoys having her own spoon to "feed herself" in between real bites from us.
* We are now slowly starting her on stage 3 foods.
* We are in 9 month clothes....and those are slowly getting small. When standing upright she comes to Joe's mid thigh!! We have a tall one on our hands!!
* She also got her first pair of REAL shoes. We are in size 3, wides!!
* Riley also loves to climb all over us. She likes to lay on our bed and crawls over me and over Joe. She thinks it is hilarious to try to get to the edge of the bed....she is dangerous already.
We are also teaching her the word "no". She doesn't quite know what it means, but she is learning that it is not good and that she should not do it. However, she will try a few times and then finally moves on. We find ourselves using "NO" most with Busters food and water bowls. Riley knows that she is not allowed near it, but thinks it is a fun game to try to get over there. Buster could careless if she goes over there, even while he is eating. But she thinks it is great fun!!

She is also in love with the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show. Specifically the Hot Dog song!! She will become mesmerized with it!! It is wonderful for during her nebulizer treatments!!

Ok, enjoy the pics and video. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

A Horrible Weekend

We have had a pretty crummy weekend. Here is a play-by-play of our days, starting on Friday.

Friday:
12:35- While enjoying my lunch I get a call from GiGi saying that Riley seemed to be getting worse. Riley had had a rough night on Thursday, but she was fine when she woke up. GiGi said that she did not have a fever, but that we should get her to the doctor since her cough seemed to be getting worse. So I called the doctor and they got us an appointment for 4:15.

4:15- We get to the doctors and get to see Dr. Cross (our favorite doctor!!) We explain that we were there a week ago and that Riley had been getting Pulmacort 2 times a day for a week. We explain that her cough is getting worse. They take her temp (101.3) and weigh her (18.4...a pound less that a week earlier). Dr. Cross says that she would like to get some blood work done so she can see what Riley's CBC's was and to run a few more tests (check her kidneys too..they were ok). So a few nurses hold her down and try to draw some blood, but her veins are too tiny and they could not get enough blood. So they also have to prick her finger. She was not a happy camper. After they pricked and prodded we give her a neb treatment while waiting for the blood results. More bad news comes.....her white blood cell counts were really high. So Dr. Cross says that she needs to get a shot of antibiotics so that this respitory infection does not turn into pneumonia. So....more pain for Bear. Two nurses come in and both give her a shot (one in each leg at the same time). By this time Riley was SSOOO upset that when I picked her up she would not let go of me and within 3 minutes she was sound asleep in my arms, yet still whimpering. It was a really hard evening for Joe and I. We hated seeing her in so much pain.

We had to wait around for 20 minutes to ensure she didn't have a reaction to the meds. Then Dr. Cross told us that we had to come back in on Saturday to repeat it all again!! She said that since her blood count was so bad oral antibiotics would not work fast enough and that the shots were going to help much faster.

6pm - We headed home. I was scared to let her sleep on her own because she was having so much trouble breathing that she was choking on her spit and mucus. So I had her fall asleep in our bed for about 2 hours while I watch TV and kept an eye on her. After a little bit I brought her back to her crib. ...but I checked on her every 1-2 hours.

Saturday- Riley and I went back to the doctors office for more poking and prodding. Although this time it brought a little good news. They poked her finger and drew some blood. Yet the shots from the night before had brought her blood count down. Well, it brought it down enough that she was able to get oral antibiotics instead of shots!! The antibiotics are for her Respiratory Infection that she had. They also put in a catheter and are testing for RSV, which we will find out if she has that in a few days. The culture needs to sit for a bit.

Last night was pretty bad again, but nothing like it had been the nights before. Today brought a bit more smiles and laughs. Although don't get me wrong, through all this pain she has smiled and laughed through it all!!I have never know a happier baby!!

She has become very cuddly over the last 2 days and now loves to give bear hugs!! OK, I have rambled on long enough!! I am hoping for a better night and a good day tomorrow!!

A Sick Punkin'

We are 34 weeks!!

Riley has been fighting a cough for about 3 weeks. I called the advice nurse a few weeks back and she advised that we raise one side of her mattress (check), use a humidifier (check), give her saline if there is congestion (check) and call if the cough gets worse....check!! Thursday night Joe and I were up all night with a sick baby girl. She was coughing all night and her cough had become "wet". Friday morning I went to work and left Joe a note to let me know how she was doing when he got her up. He called me and said that we should probably bring her in. We just didn't want it to get worse over the weekend and end up in the ER.

So Friday afternoon we headed to the doctor, only to find out that she has croup. Basically a wet cough. So, Riley now gets 2 nebulizer treatments a day (one in the morning and one at night). She handles it pretty well. We find that it works best to give it to her after she eats and while she is just sitting in her highchair enjoying some "stars" (her finger foods that she feeds herself). We are getting the hang of it, although it is not fun. Last night she was really not feeling well and was running a fever. We couldn't put her down without her getting really upset. She just wanted to be held and just hugged us.....so sweet!! I knew she was REALLY not feeling when she freaked out during bath time. Today was a better day, but she is still coughing pretty badly. Hopefully it doesn't last too much longer. It is just hard to know that something is bothering her but she can't tell us what it is.
Neb. treatments
Still smiling
However, she did start out happy yesterday morning. We went to Eggspectations for breakfast and she sat in a highchair for the first time. She loved it and felt so grown up!!

All grown up!!
She had a number of visitors too. On Friday night Aunt Kerry and UNCLE Brian stopped by. She loved visiting with them and hearing all about their honeymoon. Then on Sunday Tommy and Tara stopped by and loved on her all afternoon. Although, since was was not 100% she kinda napped a lot. But when she was awake, she was really happy to be with them.

I added a few photos for your viewing pleasure!! Enjoy!!

We're Moving!!

It is official.....we are "crawling"!! Riley is now doing a combat crawl, moving with her hands/arms then her legs follow. We put a toy out in front of her and she will scoot to it. She still prefers to roll to it, but she is now just figuring out that she can go forward to get it. It is much easier for her instead of making 4 right rolls to get something!! We got her second part of the flu shot yesterday, she barely even cried. I think she is so used to geting 4 shots at one time that getting only 1 was nothing for her!! Below are some videos of her. One is of her in the tub. She LOVES the water every night. The other one if a video I took on my cell phone of her scooting.

We LOVE our nightly tub time!!!

Scooting around the room.

Sausages Don't Wear Shoes

Joe and I just got back from Target. We went to do a little shoe shopping for Riley. We finally gave in and decided to get her some shoes. Yesterday Riley and I went to the mall and I looked at shoe stores for her. I just could not bring myself to buy a pair of $40 shoes that no doubt will be too small in a month, like everything else we get her! (Seeing that she is now in 9 month clothes and bypassed all her 6 months clothes we had gotten her!!) So after my spa day (heavenly!!) Joe and I headed over to Target to see what they had. Well, Riley has sausages for feet and none of the shoes fit!! While at Stride Rite yesterday I measured her feet as a 2. So we figured that we could get her 3's and that would last a few weeks. So we started to shove 3's on her feet.....no-go!! Length is fine, but we could not buckle them!!

So...we went with these:
Her new kicks.

They are slipper-ish, yet boots. They actually look and feel really soft and comfy. I would not mind a pair myself!! We also have a pair of purple Uggs that she wears, but they don't stay on. Hollie gave them to her and they are really cute.

Another big thing is that she is eating Gerber Puffs and Wagon Wheels. They are little finger foods that melt in her mouth. It is to help her learn to feed herself. She seems to like them, but is still having trouble getting them in her mouth. They have all different flavors. Here she is eating some, after her lunch of blueberries and peaches. Meals are starting to get messier and messier!!

Riley eating a wagon wheel.
Riley and I went yesterday (Saturday) and voted. I was able to vote early since I will be working all day on Tuesday and can't make it during the polling hours. I have Parent Conferences all day. She was the hit of the line. I allowed her to push the button to vote. It was a big day for her! I was really proud of her and how she voted ;-)

Big Events

WE ARE 7 MONTHS!!

Yep, it is true!! Riley turned 7 months yesterday!! Can you believe it? I sure can't. Let's see.....this is where we are at now: We are sitting up on our own, just about to crawl, talking all day long, laughing all the time, eating Stage 2 foods and getting ready to try some crackers!! Oh yes, and she can stand with some support too. Joe and I were talking the other day about what a great age this is. She is ssssooo happy all the time, talking, playing and very active!!

Another big event this weekend was Riley's Aunt Kerry got married!! She and Brian are now off on their honeymoon. Riley got to meet SSSOOO many new people on Friday night at the rehearsal dinner. She loved it. So much love and affection. She had a great time. She especially loved to meet her Great grandmama!! What a treat. Then on Saturday my parents came and picked her up and kept her over night. They loved it, as did Riley!! They said she was a perfect angle!!!

Here are some photos:

A Little Pumpkin

Today I was *sick*.....ok, so I wasn't sick, but I played sick (knock on wood, since Joe is currently in bed with the flu!!) Riley had her first field trip today and so I went along!! This is how our day went along:

9:15- I got Riley dressed in her pumpkin best and had a quick photo shoot at home!!

9:45 - Met up at GiGi's house. All the other parents were there too. It was great to meet them all and put faces to kids. Then we all caravan over to Cox Farms. http://www.coxfarms.com/

10:00- We got to Cox and walked in to begin our journey. ($9 for 2 and up during the week, $15 for 2 and up on the weekends....but well worth it!!)

Her "classmates"

10:30- Riley was sound asleep!! She was enjoying the cool fall day while sleeping in her stroller. We wondered around and the older kids went on slides, saw animals, and got to run around. This was when I realized I LOVE the fact that Riley is not crawling, walking, or running yet!! It was so much easier to just push her all day!!

11:30- We all made our way over to the hayrides. We climbed inside and enjoyed the ride. We saw lots of cool cut-outs (snoopy, care bears, ghosts, goblins, witches, aliens, and we went through mud and a pond. It was defiantly a great ride for kids and adults!!

Mommy and Bear on the hayride

12:15- We all sat down for some lunch. Riley enjoyed some green beans and a bottle while I enjoyed the sandwich that I packed from home. Although, Cox does have a very extensive snack bar (pizza, hot dogs, burgers, fries, nachos, kettle corn, etc) I actually did get some kettle corn, which I am enjoying as I type!!

1:15- We headed over to enjoy a few more slides. This time Riley and I went down one together. It was a lot of fun.

Mommy and Bear going down the slide
Riley and GiGi

1:45- All the other kids went through a corn stalk maze. Riley and I stayed behind and watched all the stuff. She was getting tired and since strollers were not allowed in I didn't want her to have a melt down halfway through. By the time they all came out (10 minutes later) Riley was fast asleep again!!

2:00- We headed over to the goats. The other kids went in to pet and feed the goats. (free to go in, $1 to get food to feed them).

2:30- Then it was time to go. As you leave, you get to take home a pumpkin (the free ones are pretty small). I had hoped to sit Riley up in between some pumpkins, but you guessed it....she was asleep. So I think Joe and I will take another trip over there, or to another pumpkin patch, and take some photos.

We had a GREAT time and Riley was very tired from it. I am sure all the other kids went to bed early tonight!!

I am pretty tired too. Since Joe is in bed sick, I have had baby/home duty all alone tonight. It would not have been so bad if I was not in need of making baby food too. Luckily she has not figured out the crawling thing yet (although I think it will be this weekend!!), because she was easily entertained laying on her blanket with her toys. Yet, she is still mobile.....she rolls everywhere! If she wants something, she will get it, just by rolling over to it.

Ok, I gotta tend to my sick hubby!! I hope you have enjoyed the pictures!!

A New Addition to the Family!!

We are: 28 weeks and 6 days!!

On Saturday morning we found out that we have welcomed a new addition to the family!! My sister had her baby at 3:56am!! The had not found out if it was a boy or girl...drum roll please....they had another little boy!! John Patrick "Jack" Harrison weighed in at just under 7 pounds and right at 21 inches!! He is so little and very long!! You forget how little they are when they are born!! Jack and mommy are doing great!! I will upload pictures when I get a free minute.

My last blog mentioned how great Riley did with her shots....I had spoken too soon. Tuesday she was not a happy camper. She became fussy and didn't want to eat. But, she slept fine and woke up Wednesday back to normal. However......that didn't last too long. She is now battling a bad cold. She is really congested and coughing a bit. It acts up mostly when she is laying down. The last few nights she wakes up every hour or two crying because she can't sleep. It is really sad and Joe and I are very tired.

I have today off, but Riley is at GiGi's for a few hours. I am cleaning the house from top to bottom and then heading to the dentist. She....she is off playing with the other kids for a few hours. I am sure she was happy to head over there....she loves it and gets to play with other kids.

OH!! other big news.....Riley is days away from crawling!! She is scooting along and trying to get up to crawl. She can get her legs in position, but her head goes down. Then she gets her head and arms up, but her legs go down. But I am thinking she will be crawling any day now. We have already put a gate up going down the stairs and need to get another one for the other set of stairs. She also says "RaRaRa" now. I am thinking she is copying us when we call her "Ri". At least we know she will not have a speech impediment saying her R's!

Hope you are all enjoying your long weekend!! I will post pics and a video soon. Little Jack!!
LOVING bath time!!

A Bear in a Box

We are: 27 weeks and 5 days!!

Today we had Riley's 6 month check up and all went well. She was quite the trooper after her 5 shots!! She had the same 4 shots (and one orally), plus she had the booster for the flu shot. We will head back in a month for the other half of the flu shot. Right after the shots I scooped her up and about 30 seconds later she was sound asleep in my arms!! She was sound asleep, yet still sniffling...too cute!! Here are her stats:

* Weight: 18 pounds (87%)
* Height: 28 inches (99%)

Still at the top of the charts!!

On Sunday we had some visitors for the Redskins game. We dressed her in her finest Redskin gear (cheerleader outfit!) and her Uncle Tommy, Aunt Kerry, and Uncle Brian stopped by. Riley was not too fond of the cheering, a few times she would burst out in tears and needed some comforting. However, after a 2 hour nap she was back in high spirits and cheering on the Skins. Then her Aunt Kerry put her in her toy box....she loved it!! She also sitting on Uncle Tommy's shoulders. What a fun day that ended in a Skins win....good times all around!

We have started her on meats. Some chicken and gravy and turkey with gravy. They smell HORRIBLE, but she loves them, so she gets it!!

We are battling a bit of diaper rash. We are not sure if it is from a new food she ate or from her new wipes. But we are eliminating the new foods and sticking out the wipes. If it doesn't go away then we will try eliminating the wipes. The doctor today gave me a prescription for "butt paste" (that is the real name for it!!). She said to give the over the counter stuff a little time to work, but if it is still there on Wednesday then we should get the RX. But it was looking better tonight.

That is all from here. Hope you are all doing well!! We are looking forward to Kerry's wedding in 3 weeks!! We can't wait to introduce Riley to everyone!!
